Does anybody know of a good source for information regarding the VRC? There seems to be very little to no info on the internet; is there any book material out there?
Thanks.

Hello friends.

It was a long time since I sent out a news letter to you, so now I thought it was about time with.

I have plans to redo the entire layout to the main page of this forum http://www.factasy.com/civil_war/

And now, I thought to hear of you who are members of what your views.
Do you have any preferences on how you would like the site would look like.
I'm open to suggestions and ideas.
You can make suggestions about everything from the color to different functions.

I will also remove the existing Forum (http://www.factasy.com/forum/index.php) and integrate it with the site, so you only need to log in one place

Then I thought to hear of you who have pages on my site, have you forgotten that you have pages that you can upload your information on the war, reason I ask is if you want to keep the pages or if I can delete them.

To those of you who have been active on the forum I wonder if you have lost your password or user name, please send an email to me and I will restore your account.

Sincerely, Ann owners Factasy.com

I have heard it said many times that Lincoln had made the comment "We wouldn't have won the war if it had not been for the 54th Massachusetts." Is this actually true?

A qoute on the matter.

"We of the Southe are about to inaugurate a new civilization.  We shall have new and original thought; negro slavery will be its great controlling and distinctive element."

Source: The Future of the Confederation, DeBow's Review 31 (July 1861), pp. 35-40.

We should listen and learn instead of trying to filter and spin what the people of the period actually said what they were fighting for.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

At one time,

There were more abolitionist societies in the South than there were in the North.

By the time slavery was being voted upon by the Virginia legislature, those organizations had waned to the point of absolute ineffectiveness and the slaveholders had done much to make it so.

Slaveholders had also made sure that their influence in the vote were heard with no problem.

As for the idea that Reconstruction turned many pro-Union Southerners to turn into something else, I would ask first how many US troops were on occupation duty in the South, and how many pro-Union Southerners were attacked or threatened by pro-Confederate/ex-Confederate forces.

You will come up with a very lop-sided figure if you do the research.

The resentment of former slaves being granted equal status with whites was the primary drive in the violence during Reconstruction.  If it were no so, why segragation and black codes in the South for the next 100 years?

Sincerely,
Unionblue
