After reading the September issue of America's Civil War I came upon an article that caught my interest.

According to cardiologist John Sotos, he believes that Abraham Lincoln may have been suffering from a rare form of cancer known as " multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2b.

He was wanting to conduct a DNA sample from the pillowcase that president was lying on up to his death. In May, the GAR turned down the request but agreed to work with the National Musuem of Health and Medicine in Washington DC.

Do you the member's of this forum believe this should be done by taking a chance to deface or damage such an historic artifact ?

This has raised quite a stir among historians across the nation. Some believe that it should be done, others say leave it alone! Huh

I've met Dr. Sotos and tried to get him to talk at our CWRT.  He'll stand in as a filler in case there's a sick-out but his schedule is pretty tight.  I asked him a hypothetical.  "If Booth did not shoot Lincoln, how long did Lincoln have."  Without even hesitating, Dr. Sotos said less than a year.  If Sotos is right, Booth inadvertantly propelled Lincoln to martyrdom and fame.  If Lincoln had not been assassinated and just gotten sick and died, would anybody have noticed?

Kinda like Marilyn Monroe.  She will be forever young and beautiful in our minds.  She never got old and wrinkled so we don't remember her as an old, wrinkled washed out actress.
