Marine Corps Historical Reference Pamphlet: US Marines at Harper's Ferry and in the Civil War, published in 1966 by the Marine Corps Historical Branch.
This pamphlet is apparently a collection of CW Centennial publishings on the Marines. The pamphlet details the marines, led by US Army Colonel, Robert E Lee, as he attacks and captures terrorist criminal, John Brown. The Pamphlet goes on to list the Marines' various battles and actions throughout the war. The Marines' victories are proudly covered and their defeats are glossed over as best the writer can. One account of the Union Ariel being captured by the Confederate raider Alabama is curtly covered while admitting that the Marines all took an oath not to bear arms against the Confederacy in exchange for their release.     21 pages of interesting CW history.

Check out David Sullivan.  He's the administrator for the International Naval Research Organization as well as The Company of Military Historians.  A former marine himself, he wrote a four volume work on the Marine Corps during the Civil War.  Recently he also helped a friend on a Confederate marine who attended (briefly) Harvard  University.  Dave's four volume work is definitive and he hasn't stopped writing and researching.
