Hello, I am a student at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania and am engaging in research related to Pennsylvania's black soldiers during the Civil War, and I noticed that you have the last name incorrect for one John Barnetts. You have his name listed as "John Barunet." I have been including Mr. Barnetts' pension records in my research and this is not the first instance of people misspelling his name. He was illiterate and so did not know when the army mustered him in as "John Barnett"--without the 's'--and so had to clear up that sticky mess when he applied for his pension in 1892. The government still does not have his name correctly and continues to label his file as "John Barnett." I encourage you to look up the information for yourselves, but the information for both soldiers is identical and I strongly believe that your "John Barunet" is actually my "John Barnetts."
