To Thea, Tommy, and Dawna, and everyone else: I didn't know about Bill until today, and I raise my glass now to make a toast in his honor. I debated with him on another board, but mostly I just read his posts. He was much more knowledgable than I about the US Civil War, and was very articulate and courteous in his postings, respectful to everyone. However, if insulted or provoked he could skillfully hold his own, and if he went on the offensive with you, you'd need every resource in your "arsenal". I was amazed that an Englishman would know so much about the US Civil War, obviously spending an enormous amount of time studying it. I am glad to read that he was able to continue traveling for a while after he was diagnosed with his illness. He was a true Southerner in every sense of the word, and even though I would have fought for the North back then I respected Bill and his point of view. I suspect strongly that Bill Torrens fought in that war in a previous incarnation, on the side of his beloved South. May he rest in peace.
