I have a wealth of info on my great great grandfather.
Famous Brooklyn surgeon joined the NY Corps of Surgeons and sent to the Peninsula. Operating room was Wren chapel @William and Mary College. Many amputations performed.
One of 4 founders of Brooklyn Hospital, now Downstate in NY.
Performed plastic surgeries in the 1850's. 6 of his operations can be purchased on Amazon by searching Daniel Ayres Jr. 1857 Medical Journal.
Brooklyn Eagle Online has several Dr. Ayres articles detailing his philanthropy and work. One of the wealthiest men in Brooklyn, he left his great great Grandson his nose but no fortune. Spent by his son Dr. Morgan W. Ayres I who lived for 98 years! Gave 250,000 dollars to Wesleyan (Ct.).
Highest Freshman cum average in molecular Bio is still called the Daniel Ayres Award c. 1843! Quite an American.
Headed back to Brooklyn after seeing defensive lunettes around Washington!
