Antonio Dardell, Company A, 27th CVI
Post-war photo of Private Antonio Dardell, Company A, 27th CVI. Antonio is one of the few Chinese soldiers to serve in the Civil War. He was brought to the United States by a Guilford Sea Captain named White when he was nine years old. Educated at Clinton Academy, Antonio joined the 27th in August 1862. Photo taken from his newspaper obituary in January 1933. Antonio’s knapsack can be seen at the 102nd Infantry museum in the Golf Street Armory in New Haven, CT. |
